where to start?

So much has happened in the past three weeks. New friends, lots of hugs, a little spanish, the andes mountains, and lingering sickness.

Sometimes it's hard to know where to begin.

Arequipa Peru

Bye, I'm leaving for NYC tomorrow and Peru on Wednesday. I'll be hanging with some orphans next to a volcano, and taking lots of photos.

I love you and I'll be back on the 27th.

January

I had a really great conversation with my friend Sarah this morning thinking about my upcoming trip to Peru and the new year in general. She informed me that January is named for the greek god Janus who has two heads and therefor has the ability to look both forwards and back. The word janitor is also derived from the name Janus.

I like both of those ideas when thinking about what I want to accomplish in January. I want to look back and take inventory of the past and look forward to see what I want from the future. I also want to clean house and get rid of the things and thoughts that are cluttering my life. I want to take stock of relationships and work things and think hard about how I can best invest in them and love people better.

I love January, I'm looking forward to all that 2009 has to offer.

Zen Habits

My zen habit for January is sitting up straight. I have the worst posture ever.

Tackle Box

I keep all of my jewelry in a rusted aluminum tackle box. It makes me really happy.
What do you keep your jewelry in?

7 things

Sarah over at orange element tagged me to tell you 7 things that you might not know about me.

1. I start every morning with a cup of earl grey tea.

2. I won my first blue ribbon in an easter coloring competition when I was 4 in girl scouts. I'm now an artist for a living.

3. I took a picture with Sufjan Stevens that got me and my friends on NPR.

4. I picked my major through eeny-meeny-miny-moe.

5. I eat an insane amount of honey, and it's dream of mine to one day own bees.

6. I'm going to Peru in less than two weeks to volunteer at an orphanage.

7. I'm obsessed with old polaroid cameras.
