My friend Talitha is going to be a missionary in Prague. She'll be ministering mostly to expatriates and artists in the czech republic. You can read her story here. She also has to raise her own support, and is inching towards her goal. You can sponsor her directly through world harvest mission.
This is my favorite hymn, mostly because I like the word ebenezer. Not only is it an amazing word to say, but I like what it means, a commemoration of divine assistance. It's a stone Samuel erected after the defeat of the philistines to commemorate what God had done. It's great in this season to reflect on how God has provided and how he's moving, and to look forward to the new year with anticipation and hope for what he's going to do in the future.
Come thou fount of every blessing Tune my heart to sing thy grace Streams of mercy never ceasing Call for songs of loudest praise Teach me some melodious sonnet Sung by flaming tongues above I'll praise the mount I'm fixed upon it Mount of thy redeeming love
Here I raise my Ebenezer Hither by thy help I come And I hope by thy good pleasure Safely to arrive at home Jesus sought me when a stranger Wondering from the fold of God He, to rescue me from danger Interposed His precious blood
O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love Here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above
I have some of the best friends in the whole entire world, two of which have entered my life since I've started my adventure in philly and have captivated my heart with their awesomeness. I exchanged gifts with Sarah and Lana tonight. Sarah walked in and handed me an awesome glass lid with wooden base to make a terrarium and an amazing hand bound journal that I'm going to fill with lists.
Later Lana surprised me with bees from heifer international. I love bees. They will be sent to a village in uganda where they can sell the honey to make money for their village.
I was going to make another micro loan through kiva.org today. Kiva is a nonprofit that allows you to loan small business owners around the world a little money to help fund their business.
I was suprised when I went to check out that two of my loans had been fully repaid so I didn't have to spend any new money to help two more small business owners.
So with $75 I have helped to fund: Grace Mutunga from Kenya who makes textiles Anna Zhuravleva from the Ukraine and sells fish Matagiaila Elu from Samoa who dyes fabric 3 vegetable growers from cambodia and a group of weavers from cambodia
Zack from the band All Time Low was awesome enough to wear one of my shirts the other night at their show at the electric factory.
You can help send me to Peru by buying one too! I only have L, XL, and XXL in the brown and I have some smaller girls sizes in blue. You can see them here.
Today at church instead of a sermon Steve opened up the mic to anyone who wanted to come up and say what they were thankful for. It was really beautiful to hear people talking about what God is doing in their lives and all the wonderful things they get to reflect on. I got to get up and talk about moving to Philadelphia, and meeting Lana and finally having a church and community to call home. It made me recall all of the amazing things I've been blessed with this past year.
I have a lot to reflect on, and a lot to be thankful for.
The library down the street from my house is being affected by the city's budget cuts. They have to close it. I am so sad. ANNNND they won't be opening the ice skating rink down the street either. Lame lame lame.
Today I walked past a little girl sitting on the sidewalk gluing leaves to a piece of paper, as I strolled passed her she started humming Vanilla Ice. I think we would be best friends.
I found these old blue prints in my aunt's attic and thought that they were too amazing to be stuck up there. I ended up screen printing over them to make some sweet posters. You can buy them on my etsy store. Each one is original, and it turns out they were plans to my great uncles house.
I've been looking for shoes that I can wear socks with for the winter that aren't sneakers and aren't boots. With a little help from Lana I found them from this cool cruelty free company called Keep.
This weekend me and my Philly friends got to experience Sussex county Delaware at its finest at the annual Punkin' Chunkin' competition. We squinted our eyes to try and catch a glimpse of pumpkins being shot out of giant air compressed canons.
My friend Jenna and I go to our studio every Thursday for a practice of creative discipline. It doesn't matter what you make as long as you go and make something. Usually we end up screen printing random stuff. Last night I drew some little polaroid sketches for a project I'm rolling around in my head.
Haley Smith circa 2003 We were having this talk about senior portraits on the way to work the other day, so I figured I'd post mine. This one's for Bryana.
I have decided what to do with the now infamous Howies shirts. My church is running a short term service missions trip to Peru in January, and I really want to go and work at an orphanage. Time will be spent doing whatever they need from us, from crafting with the kids to doing odd jobs for the facility. So for a donation of atleast $25 you get a little love from Philadelphia in the form of a t-shirt and get to help send me to Peru. The shirts are organic cotton and if you think $25 is expensive they sell for 20 pounds which is almost $40 on the howies website.
Any extra money I make will be donated directly to the orphanage.
